The entry level and exit outcomes of our lesson plan will depend heavily upon the make up of our class. Our class profile consists of a grade 10 class which is broken down into 16 girls and 14 boys who have a wide range of athletic abilities. Within this student body we have two ESL students (one boy and one girl) and a mexican exchange student. In addition, we have in our class a person with a physicial disability (paraplegic) and a student with ADHD. For information regarding adaptations go to the managerial routines page.
The outcomes we wish to see our students achieve include an increase in body awareness and personal spirituality. Without incorportating aspects of religion, we want our students to feel the overwhelming calming and relaxing effect that is associated with an activity such as yoga.
Multi-limb coordination is a key concept we hope the students will refine during their yoga experience. Spatial awareness, more specifically the knowledge of ones body in space without the aid of sight is an important skill which is learned. So too is flexibility, which encourages students to explore their limitations and boundaries, and to push them further both physically and cognitively. A personally fulfilling and truely enjoyable yoga experience is of paramount importance to us, as one of our main outcomes is to see the students take the initiative to go out and try yoga in a community setting. It is our greatest hope to see a finer appreciation of ones own body and the beauty of the human body in its many forms through yoga, as opposed to those concepts of a beautiful body which pervade our daily media.
Learning
outcomes will be assessed in a number of different ways. For
